I first became interested in a writing career as a 16 year old at Brooklyn Technical High School in New York City when every week my teacher read her favorite story to the class and every week she read my story. But I was a physics major and decided it was “safer” to stay in physics. I passed a PhD exam in physics, got a Masters Degree in it and then switched to medicine when I discovered I was overqualified for many physics jobs at the time. I became a radiologist with subspecialty training in neuroradiology. Along the way, I have written many scientific articles, many unpublished stories and owned a bookstore in our local town. In March of 2026 after practicing for 40 years, I retired from radiology. But the idea of writing creatively that was spawned, years earlier, by a gifted high school teacher, has been a lingering desire, dwelling deeply inside me. Like a habit, hard to break… Needing expression…

A Divine Wind

Thriller in the Middle East

A Divine Wind is a techno-thriller blending geopolitics, weather-control technology, and spiritual themes. A lightning strike on Jerusalem’s Wailing Wall sparks global intrigue—are these events human-made or divine? The novel explores the intersection of personal loss, love, and the power of nature, asking whether fate is controlled by human hands or something divine.

Book cover titled "Escape to Appalachia" featuring an illustration of a man with a hat and vest standing with a horse in a winter landscape with snow-covered trees, a river, and small houses, at sunset.

Escape To Appalachia

A Memoir From the Heart of a Small Town

Escape To Appalachia is a poignant memoir of love, loss and healing, as physician Norman M. Jacobs leaves NYC and Washington D.C. for rural Appalachia. As he states:“I bonded to the people, to the animals, to the very red clay soil forming the foundation of the Ohio River Valley, so even this became hallowed ground.” How this transpired, and the many lessons learned, lies at the heart of his memoir.

This memoir is also the mirror image story of a poor rural southern Ohio town, Portsmouth, Ohio, that just could never get any respect. This town, like many small towns in rural America, has been slowly recreating itself, and is now part of a new American manufacturing renaissance, still in its infancy.

A DIVINE WIND - BOOK REVIEWS

"A Divine Wind by Norman M. Jacobs, MD, MS is a fantastic and fast paced novel that I enjoyed reading. This enticing thriller blended politics, military, espionage, romance, faith, science, fantasy, humor, religious extremism, and more. I loved the brilliant plot, exceptional character development, and realistic storyline... Norman is a gifted storyteller that spun this story with unpredictable twists... The history lessons from Israel to New York, Iran, and the Middle East also captivated me. Generations of Jews went through hell. I wish for a world where love and value for human lives are the only religion. Thank you. Norman.”

"A Divine Wind by Norman M. Jacobs MD, MS is a technothriller that will keep readers glued in their seats until the last page is read... Author Norman M. Jacobs, a physician/scientist builds his plot on a most intriguing premise: the ability to alter weather patterns and control specific storms at will. The theoretical science, including its eventual and significant butterfly effect, develops in a most fascinating and approachable way, leaving readers imagining the likelihood of such a tool's viability in our world today. A Divine Wind begins at a heart-pounding thrilling pace, as any technothriller should. Jacobs then weaves historical events into his characters' lives, bringing depth and empathy for what shapes their actions...An intelligent techno-thriller that won't leave you even after the final page is read. Highly recommended! 5 Stars. BEST BOOK"
